Bette Midler Needs $174 Million to Plant a Tree on the Moon (Video)

The environmentalist wants to take her cause into outer space in new Funny or Die parody

She’s a singer, an actress and a self-proclaimed tree hugger but now, Bette Midler wants to become an astronaut, bound for the Moon. But she needs your money in order to get there.

“I want your support for an initiative that is very near and dear to my heart, planting trees, specifically, one tree, on the moon,” Midler said in a new video from Funny or Die.

Midler has long been an advocate for environmental causes here on Earth but she feels the time has come to expand her ecological efforts to outer space.

“I really do feel like I’m ready for the next step and my next step is — to complete my astronaut training, board a space ship, land on the moon, plant a tree and then come home,” Midler announced.

Of course, she’s turning to Kickstarter in order to raise the funds needed for her $174 million trip, which pays for hors d’oeuvres, a mixologist plus hair and makeup. You know, all of the essentials for space travel.

The cost may be outlandish but the prizes for donors are pretty sweet. $100 will get you a signed copy of Midler’s new CD “It’s the Girls,” but for $100,000, she’ll moon you from the Moon.

“Donate today because if I don’t make it to the Moon, I’m coming for Uranus,” the singer declared, while floating amongst the stars.
