Bill Murray Destroys ‘Late Show’ Set on 20th Anniversary (Video)

Twenty years ago, the comedian left a time capsule under the stage … somewhere

Bill Murray celebrated 20 years of “The Late Show” Thursday night by destroying David Letterman‘s set, in search of a time capsule he buried two decades ago.

Dressed as Liberace, the comedian took a box cutter to several sections of the stage carpet. Then he chose a pickaxe to chip away at the structure, which still did not quite do the trick. Fortunately, he had a jackhammer just off-camera to unearth keepsakes that he said he had buried decades earlier. (And who are we not to believe him?)

Eventually a time capsule did emerge from beneath the stage, celebrating Murray’s appearance 20 years ago.

The contents included a New York Post touting Jay Leno, an old Letterman hairpiece and a photo from Murray’s first appearance on the long-running show.

This was perhaps the least-bizarre thing Murray did on “The Late Show” Thursday.
