Bob Pisano Stepping Down From MPAA on Sept. 30

The lobbying group’s COO cites a desire to spend time with his family as a reason for the exit

Bob Pisano will step down as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Motion Picture Association of America, the Hollywood lobbying group announced on Monday.

Citing a desire to spend more time with his family, Pisano said he will leave the organization on September 30.

In an e-mail to the MPAA staff announcing his decision, Pisano said, “Though I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to help lead the organization, I’m also increasingly conscious of the fact that I’ve reached that moment in life when quality time with one’s family is an increasingly precious gift."

In addition to his COO role, Pisano  also served as interim CEO for more than a year while the MPAA struggled to find a seasoned Washington D.C. insider to replace outgoing head Dan Glickman.

His exit is not unexpected given that former Senator Chris Dodd is now more firmly entrenched in the organization's top seat. Dodd took over as CEO and Chairman of the MPAA in March 2011.

Prior to joining the MPAA, Pisano straddled the worlds of the studios and the unions. He served for four years as National Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

Between 1993 and 1999 he served as Executive Vice President, then as Vice Chairman and member of the Board of Directors at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).
