‘Bridesmaids’ Actress Joins Adam Sandler Comedy for Warner Bros. (Exclusive)

Wendi McLendon-Covey will play Drew Barrymore's best friend

Wendi McLendon-Covey has joined the cast of “The Familymoon,” a Warner Bros. comedy that reteams Adam Sandler with his “Wedding Singer” co-star Drew Barrymore, according to two individuals with knowledge of the deal.

The film follows a couple (Sandler and Barrymore) whose disastrous blind date lands them at a family resort with their children from previous marriages.

Joel McHale will play Barrymore’s former husband while McLendon-Covey will play Barrymore’s best friend, a woman who has no children.

Chelsea Handler previously had the role in the film, which Mike Karz and Bill Bindley's Gulfstream Pictures is producing with Sandler's Happy Madison productions.

McLendon-Covey, who charmed audiences as the forthright Rita in “Bridesmaids,” will soon wrap the Atlanta-based film and then fly off to star in a TV show for Happy Madison — "The Goldbergs." That show starts production Aug. 5.

She just finished work on "Think Like a Man Too" and has a slew of movies set to open in the next few months, including the Christmas comedy “A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle,” “Claire’s Cambodia,” “Cuban Fury” and Tyler Perry‘s “Single Moms Club.” She is represented by UTA, Gladys Gonzales of John Carrabino Management, Lori Jonas PR and attoreny David Krintzman.
