‘Bridesmaids’ Writer, Former ‘SNL’ Writer Stepping in Front of the Camera for Judd Apatow’s Next Movie

Two of the funniest writers in Hollywood will take a turn ion the other side of the camera in Judd Apatow’s next movie, TheWrap has confirmed.

Bridesmaids” co-writer Annie Mumolo and Robert Smigel, the former “Saturday Night Live” writer who is the voice of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, will act in Universal’s still-untitled movie, which is filming now.

The two novices have some experienced hands on set to coach them: Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Albert Brooks, Megan Fox, Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd star.

Rudd and Mann reprise the roles of Paul and Debbie, whom they played in the 2007 Apatow hit “Knocked Up.” In the new film. Mumolo and Smigel will play their close friends.

The two writers aren’t entirely inexperienced. Mumolo (above) is a member of the Groundlings, and played such memorable roles as “Teenage Girl No. 1” in “Two and a Half Men” and “Bed, Bath and Beyond Shopper” in the movie “Bewitched.”

Smigel (right), who wrote “You Don’t Mess With The Zohan” with Apatow and Adam Sandler, has had small roles in many films, including “The Wedding Singer” and “Happy Gilmore.”

Apatow wrote the movie and is directing and producing. Clayton Townsend and Barry Mendel also are producing.

Universal plans to release the movie June 1, 2012.
