Thursday night, John Mayer took a Twitter break to rock the boat, his very own Mayercraft Carrier 2 docked at the port of San Pedro for a special concert to benefit the VH-1 Save the Music Foundation. Those hoping Mayer would make waves in another Borat-style mankini, which he memorably donned during his voyage last year, were sorely disappointed at the site of the singer in a button-down. He gave his best trademark grimaces as he strummed his own material along with some Tom Petty tunes before accompanying “American Idol” alum Jordin Sparks. Also aboard: Gavin Rossdale, who performed an acoustic set, and Sara Bareilles, who belted out her hit “Love Song.” The next day, Mayer set sail on a four-day trip to Cabo, where he promised to flash more than a little leg for his fans who came along for the ride …
Across town in West Hollywood, Brooke Shields, Debra Messing, Marisa Tomei (all pictured below right) and Mandy Moore lashed out at the launch party for Latisse, a serum to make your — get this — eyelashes grow. A doc was on hand to sign away prescriptions, but no needles needed. Thank gawd. Guests peeped an exhibit by celebrity photographer Matthew Rolston, posed for pics in a photo booth, and chased down the waitress with the addicting white chocolate Baked Alaskas at the soiree, which benefitted the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Also that night, Rolston, David LaChapelle, Lauren Greenfield and Patrick McCarthy supported their fellow shooters at the opening of Annenberg Space for Photography, which featured local talent in an L8S Angeles exhibit …
Friday night, it was all about female empowerment as Doris Roberts, Rosario Dawson, Calista Flockart and Christine Lahti joined in a reading of “The Vagina Monologues” for a VDay Santa Monica event to stop violence against women and girls. The next day, Dawson showed up to the Streamy Awards, where she got props for her role in the web show, “Gemini Series.” Hey, who needs an Oscar? Earlier, bragging rights belonged to those who scored orange blimps, the prize at the Kids’ Choice Awards at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. Miley Cyrus, the cast of "High School Musical," the Jonas Brothers and former teen heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio walked away winners. But the true badge of honor: getting slimed. Sandra Bullock and Hugh Jackman, who awarded “Twilight” with a Best Book blimp, showed great courage in the face of green, but Will Ferrell took it to another level when he set the Slip and Slime world record with a whopping 200 feet …
John Wells and the cast of “ER” cleaned up nice for the show’s wrap party at Social Hollywood on Saturday night. The ultimate hot doc, George Clooney, returns to the show for the final 15th season, but alas not the bash, where rubberneckers on Sunset Boulevard settled for a glimpse at John Stamos …
Just down the street, Adam Shankman watched his “Hairspray” star Queen Latifah (pictured above left) celebrate her 39th birthday at Sir Studios with a three-tiered cake and a 45-minute performance. While Latifah performed some material off her upcoming album, “Persona,” the room buzzed when old-school female rappers MC Lyte, Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, Yo-Yo and Lady of Rage joined her for some old-school girl power anthems. Guests, including her parents, Jermaine Dupri, James Taylor (yes, that James Taylor) and Q-Tip, who manned the turntables, serenaded the star with Stevie Wonder’s version of “Happy Birthday” …
Christina Aguilera provided her own take on the song when she sucked up to gossip blogger Perez Hilton with a “Happy Birthday, Mr. Perezident” serenade for his soiree at the Viper Room. Keep your enemies close, as they say…
Finally, Ellen De Generes and Portia de Rossi snagged honors for their puppy love from the Humane Society at the Genesis Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
