Bryan Cranston will star alongside James Franco in the 20th Century Fox and 21 Laps comedy “Why Him?” an individual with knowledge of the casting told TheWrap.
The film follows a Midwestern dad (Cranston) who travels to visit his daughter at college, only to find himself in conflict with her tech billionaire boyfriend (Franco).
John Hamburg is directing in addition to co-writing the script with Ian Helfer. Shawn Levy is producing under his 21 Laps banner, while Ben Stiller is also attached as a producer through Red Hour Films.
Cranston and Franco are currently collaborating on “In Dubious Battle,” which Franco is directing and producing in addition to starring in as Mac McLeod. It is based on the novel of the same name by John Steinbeck.
Cranston is best known for playing ace meth cook Walter White on the AMC series “Breaking Bad.” He will next appear in “Trumbo,” a period drama about blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, in addition to lending his voice to “Kung Fu Panda 3.”
