Lotz, a dancer and singer turned actress, will play a soldier who appears to be human but has greater abilities than any mere mortal. Hence, “The Machine.” The British government is developing the robotic soldier, but a bug in the programming threatens the whole project.

Stephens, the villain from “Die Another Day,” will play a scientist intent on completing his work on the machine.

Caradog James is directing the film, which begins principal photography July 23 in Cardiff, Wales.

Red and Black Films' John Giwa-Amu is producing while Content's Jamie Carmichael is executive producing. Red and Black developed the project with The Film Agency for Wales, Ruby Moon Ltd, Graham Associates, The Ideas Factory and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Content is selling the rights.
