Canadian Companies Announce Four-Film Animation Deal

Tayrona Films has launched an animation division, entering a lucrative but increasingly competitive field

Tayrona Films Inc., a Toronto-based company, has launched an animation division that will finance and produce four films with Arc Productions, the two companies announced on Friday.

Arc, also Toronto-based, will help produce and serve as the animation studio for the films. It has been the studio for five productions to date, including Shane Acker’s “9” (left) and “Gnomeo and Juliet.”

Each studio will contribute two films as part of the deal, which Paradigm brokered.

“The Legends of the Underzoo,” an Arc property, will be the first film under the deal. Kevin Almeida and Jeff Treppel wrote the script, which follows a group of animal cubs who must find a buried treasure to save their endangered zoo.

As part of the deal, Tayrona Animation is currently developing “Darwin: A Galapagos Love Story” and “Aurora the Sprit Bear of the North” Best-selling author Erik Daniel Shein wrote both scripts.

The fourth film will still be decided upon.

Tayrona Films is a multi-faceted company with offices across the Western hemisphere in Toronto, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires and several other cities. Arc focuses on special effects and animation.
