‘Captain America 2’ Directors Joe, Anthony Russo Set Up ‘Ciudad’ Movie at Sierra

John Pogue (“The Quiet Ones”) will direct the adaptation of Oni Press’ upcoming graphic novel

Sierra Pictures has come on to finance and produce the indie movie “Ciudad,” which John Pogue (“The Quiet Ones”) will direct from a script by Joe Russo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”).

Joe Russo created the upcoming Oni Press graphic novel along with brother Anthony Russo, Ande Parks and Fernando Leon. It’s unclear when “Ciudad” will hit stores.

Story follows a weary mercenary who is hired by a Brazilian drug lord to extract his daughter from one of the world’s most dangerous and corrupt cities — Paraguay’s Ciudad del Este.

Dwayne Johnson was attached to star in a previous incarnation of the project that would’ve been financed by Emmett/Furla Films.

The Russo brothers will executive produce with Closed on Mondays’ Joe Nozemack and David Guillod of Intellectual Property Group, as well as Sierra’s Nick Meyer and Marc Schaberg.

Closed on Mondays’ James Lucas Jones and Steven V. Scavelli will co-produce.
