The Weinstein Company has released a new, full-length “Carol” trailer, which gives audiences a glimpse of how Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara embrace forbidden love in a time period when gay rights were considered highly taboo.

Blanchett plays Carol, the eponymous socialite who is trapped in a marriage of convenience while living in 1950’s New York. But when she meets a young store clerk named Therese (Mara), the two form an immediate connection that threatens to tear their worlds apart.
