CBS Corp., Netflix Make Streaming Deal for Canada, Latin America

Deal follows similar domestic agreement in February

CBS Corp. and Netflix, Inc. have reached a two-year, non-exclusive deal allowing Netflix customers in Canada and Latin America to instantly stream many CBS Corp. shows beginning in September, the companies announced.

The licensing agreement follows a separate domestic deal between CBS and Netflix in February. It also comes a week after a deal between Amazon and CBS Corp. that will allow Amazon Prime subscribers to stream 2,000 episodes of 18 shows from the CBS library.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

For $7.99 a month, Canadian Netflix customers will be able to stream episodes of the CW's "90210," Showtime's "Californication" and "Dexter,"  and shows from the CBS library including "Numb3rs," "Sleeper Cell," and "Twin Peaks."

Latin American customers will be able to watch a similar collection of shows. Netflix announced earlier this month that it will launch in 43 countries across Mexico, South America and the Caribbean later this year.

"We are pleased to be partners with Netflix as they rollout their superb service to new markets," said Armando Nunez, president of CBS Studios International.  "This new arrangement — which does not compete with U.S. ratings or Showtime's domestic subscriber base — underscores the popularity of CBS content around the world, and illustrates yet another meaningful way for us to realize incremental value from our vast library of content."

"We are delighted to be expanding our successful relationship with CBS to our newer markets in Canada and Latin America," said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. "We aim to provide the widest possible range of great TV shows so our members can always find something compelling to watch wherever and whenever they want."
