During the opening minutes of Sunday’s Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference semifinal against the Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics star guard Isaiah Thomas got popped in the mouth and spit out a front tooth.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that it gave him shooting superpowers.

The Celtics were down 16-0 when Thomas inadvertently took an elbow to the mouth while trying to defend Wizard forward Otto Porter. A front tooth shot out and Thomas calmly picked it up off the court. With a gaping hole in his usually toothy smile, Thomas went on to shoot back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers, which certainly helped the Celtic climb out of that deficit.

The Celtics went on to win 123-111. Thomas told reporters in post-game interviews, “It bothers me to talk, my tongue goes right through my tooth.”

Naturally, Celtic fans had a little fun with him on social media.
