Charlie Day Circling Around ‘Pacific Rim’

Guillermo del Toro is directing the Legendary Pictures thriller

Charlie Day, the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" actor and executive producer, is in talks to join the cast of Guillermo del Toro's thriller "Pacific Rim," Variety is reporting.

"Pacific Rim" looks like big stuff. Charlie Hunnam — Gavin in this year's "The Ledge" and Jackson "Jax" Teller from the television series "Sons of Anarchy" — stars in the sci-fi thriller, and the studio has been considering Idris Elba for a part.

The movie's about an attack on Earth. Enormous monsters emerge from the sea and start destroying coastal cities. The military designs equally enormous weapons — essentially, huge robots piloted by humans — to fight them.

Legendary expects the movie to be as big as its monsters. And that's big.

Day stars in the New Line comedy "Horrible Bosses," which is set for a July 8 release.

Hunnam will play a pilot.

Travis Beacham wrote the screenplay and Legendary Pictures' Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull are producing.
