‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ Gets 2016 Holiday Release by Warner Bros.

The Alcon film based on inspirational book series will go up against Gareth Edwards-directed “Star Wars” film “Rogue One”

Alcon Entertainment’s “Chicken Soup for the Soul” will be released on December 16 in 2016, Warner Bros. said Thursday,

“Chicken Soup for the Soul” is based on a series of more than 500 books featuring a collection of short, inspirational stories and motivational essays.

The film may need some inspirational support if it hopes to succeed, since it’s rolling out the same date as Disney’s “Star Wars” film “Rogue One,” which is more than likely to be a blockbuster. Gareth Edwards (“Godzilla”) is directing the franchise spinoff that focuses on a group of pilots, led by Felicity Jones, who set out to steal plans for the Galactic Empire’s most powerful weapon, the Death Star.

Alcon financed the movie produced by Kerner Entertainment Company’s Jordan Kerner (“Smurfs 1 and 2″), along with Alcon heads Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.

Kerner’s Ben Haber will executive produce, along with Chicken Soup for the Soul CEO Bill Rouhana and Tim Rouhana. Kate Moulene is co-producer. Brandon Camp (“Love Happens”) will write the screenplay.
