Chris Argentieri has been appointed President of California Times, which includes the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union-Tribune, the company announced Monday.
Argentieri joined the Los Angeles Times in late 2014 as general manager and served as Chief Operating Officer since June 2018. He will retain the title of COO. Additionally, Jeff Crawford has been named CFO of California Times.
Below is the internal memo from executive chairman Patrick Soon-Shiong announcing the appointments:
It’s my pleasure to share that Chris Argentieri, who has served as our Chief Operating Officer since June 2018, has been appointed President of California Times.
Chris joined the Los Angeles Times in late 2014 as General Manager, overseeing business operations and leading major strategic initiatives spanning the organization, from the launch of L.A. Times Studios to the acquisition of The San Diego Union-Tribune. During the period between the announcement of Nant’s acquisition of The Times and U-T and the transaction close, he was the lead executive, helping to plan for our future while managing the overall day-to-day business operations.
Since forming our new company, Chris has shown that he has an entrepreneurial spirit that will keep us moving forward, a tireless work ethic that has been invaluable as we continue our transition to independence, and an abiding belief in the importance of journalism. Chris will continue reporting in to me as President and COO.
I’d also like to congratulate Jeff Crawford, who officially made the move from NantWorks to California Times as Chief Financial Officer recently.
Jeff worked with us at NantWorks for five years, ultimately as CFO, overseeing finance and accounting for businesses in the healthcare, biotechnology, media, gaming and clean energy industries. Many of you may not have realized that Jeff only recently joined The Times, as he’s been working with you since the transaction closed in June 2018.
He has a deep understanding of finance, budget planning and accounting administration. As we focus on digital subscriptions and continue diversifying our business – extending our journalism and storytelling through additional platforms – Jeff is working with the finance and accounting teams, and every department, to build the administrative infrastructure we need to sustain ourselves and grow. Jeff now reports in to Chris.
My thanks to Chris, Jeff and all of you for the work you do, each day, to uphold the best of our traditions while we pursue “the state of what’s next.”
With respect and gratitude,
Soon-Shiong head NantWorks, where Crawford hailed from. In June 2018, Soon-Shiong completed the purchase of the Times and the Union-Tribune from Tronc for an estimated $500 million.
