Singer Chris Brown is currently being detained in Paris on potential aggravated rape and drug charges, according to the Associated Press.
The woman who filed the complaint against Brown said she met the Grammy winner and his friends a week ago at club Le Crystal. After the overnight encounter, they all went to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel near the Concorde Plaza in central Paris, a Parisian official relayed to the AP. French investigators have two more days to decide whether to release Brown or file preliminary charges against him.
One of Brown’s bodyguards is also being detained by judicial police in the 17th arrondissement of northwest Paris, the newswire service wrote. CNN says Brown is being held with two unidentified individuals.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment on this story. Brown’s record label, Sony Music, also did not immediately return our request for a statement.
In 2009, Brown pled guilty to felony assault against fellow singer Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at the time. Brown has been in trouble with the law numerous times since then.
In July, Brown was arrested on a felony battery charge stemming from an April 2017 incident in which he was accused of punching a man who took his picture without permission. Back in 2013, Brown and a bodyguard were arrested and charged with felony assault after an incident outside of a Washington D.C. hotel. That one was reduced to a misdemeanor.
There have been other instances of legal trouble for the now 29-year-old singer.
