Jimmy Kimmel had the reveal of People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2014 during Tuesday night’s show, and he invited the movie star on for a Skype chat. But he teased out the big announcement with a mask of People magazine over the man’s face, and even used voice distortion.
Kimmel told his studio audience that he would not reveal the man’s identity until they’d guessed who he was. The audience asked a series of questions to narrow down the identity of the latest “Sexiest Man Alive” until they’d finally figured out that it was Marvel’s “Thor,” Chris Hemsworth.
The 31-year old Marvel Cinematic Universe star told People that he and his wife, Elsa Pataky, thought it was “pretty funny” when he first heard he’d been selected. But then he realized he could use his new-found status as leverage.
“I think you’ve bought me a couple of weeks of bragging rights around the house,” Hemsworth told the magazine. “I can just say to her, ‘Now remember, this is what the people think, so I don’t need to do the dishes anymore, I don’t need to change nappies. I’m above that. I’ve made it now.'”
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
