Ryan Gosling gets behind the camera and discovers an underwater city in the newest trailer for “Lost River.”
The film, which stars Christina Hendricks as a single mother trying to hang on to her house, also features Saoirse Ronan and “Agents of SHIELD” star Iain De Caestecker, as well as former “Doctor Who” Matt Smith as a bully named Bully.
It’s hard to make heads or tails of the plot in the new trailer, though word from the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered, seemed to indicate that even people who saw the film were left mostly bewildered.
What we can make sense of: Hendricks’ character is trying to save her house, which is presumably underwater. Ironic, considering her son Bones (De Caestecker), urged on by Rat (Ronan), has rowed out into the middle of a lake and discovered an underwater city. Meanwhile, Bones has also stolen something valuable from Bully, causing the bad guy to bare his abs and rap his way through the derelict streets of Detroit.
Eva Mendes is also in the film, playing a lounge singer who apparently gets bludgeoned to death while on stage.
“Lost River” has no US release date yet, but Warner Bros. has its distribution rights, and it’s also set to have its US premiere at the SXSW Film Festival.
