Colbert Announces 2020 Presidential Run on Russia’s Version of ‘The Tonight Show’ (Video)

Then again, he’d been drinking vodka

Move over, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: 2020’s got a new potential presidential candidate — and this dude is famous too.

Stephen Colbert recently made his debut as a guest on the Kremlin-approved and Russian-run “Evening Urgant,” which is basically that country’s “Tonight Show.” During his time in the armchair, the “Late Show” host announced a possible run for President of the United States in 2020.

Then again, he’d been drinking vodka with his Russian host, so who knows how sincere that was. Still, this reporter did his job and asked CBS if there was any sincerity to Colbert’s pledge — safe to say it was a joke, per network PR.

Either way, the declaration led to some pretty good shots fired against the Trump administration — like this one: “I am here to announce that I am considering a run for President in 2020, and I thought it would just be better to cut out the middleman and just tell the Russians myself.”

“I am so honored to be here right now, because you are the No. 1 show here and this is the State TV — so you’re officially an employee of the State,” Colbert said earlier in his segment. “And we agreed that I would be on the show. We, ah — what’s the word for it? We colluded that I would be on your show. And so I look forward to going back to America and testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee about colluding with Russians.”

After that one, Colbert slapped his host, who broke the CBS employee’s glasses — then they did shots. Watch the video above.
