Thanks to COVID-19, San Diego Comic-Con 2022 had fairly strict requirements for attendees, starting with proof of vaccines or negative COVID tests, and continuing to a (mostly) strictly enforced mask mandate. That presented a challenge to cosplayers, whose incredibly creative work often extends to their faces — something masks can, of course, screw up.
But — like you’re surprised — fans rose to the challenge and all over San Diego. We saw cosplayers who found creative, colorful and fun ways to incorporate the required masks with their costumes.
