“NBA on TNT” sideline reporter Craig Sager reveals on Tuesday’s episode of HBO’s “Real Sports” that his leukemia has returned.
In a conversation with Bernard Goldberg, Sager says that he is no longer in remission, adding that “uncharted waters” lie ahead of him.
“I’ve already had two stem-cell transplants. Very rarely does somebody have a third,” Sager says in a clip from the episode.
“I have to maintain my strength so I can go through this,” he explains, adding that he’s “still kicking, still fighting.
“I haven’t won the battle. It’s not over yet, but I haven’t lost it, either,” Sager continues.
Sager, who was first diagnosed with leukemia in 2014, previously underwent bone-marrow and stem-cell transplants received from his son, according to ESPN. Despite the worsening of his condition, Sager will continue to appear on “NBA on TNT” throughout April.
