King Francis II (Toby Regbo) is shocked by what he sees on Thursday’s episode of The CW’s “Reign.”

The King and Mary, Queen of Scots and France (Adelaide Kane) examine the bound and bloodied Minister (Douglas Nyback) with horror in an exclusive image obtained by TheWrap from the episode “Terror of the Faithful.”

The focus Thursday is on the rising tensions between the King and Queen as they’re forced to deal with the Vatican, which is inflicting pain on anyone they suspect might be Protestant. It’s unclear whether The Minister’s wounds are the handiwork of the Vatican, but they’re as good a guess as any. In trailers for the episode, King Francis expressed deep regret over his recent religious edict, which may well be evolving into a holy war.

Meanwhile, Lord Condé (Sean Teale) will be kidnapped, Catherine (Megan Follows) will play matchmaker for Claude (Rose Williams), but with much difficulty, and Narcisse (Craig Parker) is set to offer Lola (Anna Popplewell) a horse ride back to the castle. But when they get there a dark secret involving Francis will be revealed.
