‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ Preview: Leonardo’s Sexuality on Trial (Exclusive Video)

Starz's historical drama examines the artist’s sexuality on Friday's episode

Starz’s "Davinci’s Demons" will finally confront the mystery of the artist's sexuality.

When Friday's episode begins, Leonardo (Tom Riley) is imprisoned after being accused of sodomy. The charge can be viewed as another stab at the Medicis of Florence by their Roman enemies.

But, could there be some truth in the charge? Historically, Da Vinci has been portrayed to be gay, bisexual and/or asexual. Thus far, "Da Vinci's Demons" has emphasized his sexual relationship with Florence beauty Lucrezia (Laura Haddock).

"This is a potential goldmine in our exploration of the youthful version of Leo," Riley told TheBacklot. "Hopefully, we address any concerns about Da Vinci's Demons' depiction of this Leonardo’s sexuality in a way that is satisfactory and respectful to any historical speculation."

The episode, titled "The Tower," exposes Leonardo to many other accusations as he stands trial for the crime. But, of course, the crafty artist has his own unique way of dealing with his accusers.

In TheWrap’s exclusive preview below, we get a glimpse of what Leonardo is up to.

"Da Vinci’s Demons" airs Fridays at 9 p.m./8c on Starz.
