David O. Russell to Write & Direct ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’

Columbia’s action-adventure movie will be based on the best-selling Playstation 3 game

Columbia Pictures has set David O. Russell to write and direct "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," the studio announced late Friday.

The action-adventure film is based on the best-selling Playstation 3 game, which follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake. The game has sold more than 2.6 million copies since its 2007 release.

Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce with Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

Columbia's co-president Matt Tolmach will oversee the project along with Jonathan Kadin.

Russell is earning Oscar buzz for his next film, "The Fighter," which Paramount will release on Dec. 10. The Boston-based boxing picture stars Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Melissa Leo.

Russell is represented by CAA.
