"Dead Accounts," Theresa Rebeck's comedic play starring Katie Holmes and Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz, will close on Jan. 6 — seven weeks ahead of schedule.
When it closes, "Dead Accounts" will have played 27 previews and 44 regular performances. The play had been scheduled to run through Feb. 24.

Staged by Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien, the play revolves around Jack, a Wall Street hotshot (played by Butz), who unexpectedly returns to his Cincinnati home with a dark secret, throwing his family into a frenzy. In addition to Holmes, who plays Jack's sister, the cast includes Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer and Jayne Houdyshell.

"I look forward to working with this remarkably talented cast and creative team again very soon."

The play opened at the Music Box Theatre to mixed-to-negative reviews, with New York Times critic Ben Brantley writing: "Despite the differences between their characters’ metabolisms (as well as their acting styles) Ms. Holmes and Mr. Butz summon an appealingly natural family rapport, especially in their first scene, which turns out to have been the show’s high point. You may even forget that Ms. Holmes is Katie Holmes for a moment."
