Debunked: Jeremy Renner Will NOT ‘Escape From New York’

New Line has not offered the role of Snake Plissken to the Oscar-nominated “Hurt Locker” star

Over the past few days, the blogosphere has run rampant with word that Jeremy Renner, the Oscar-nominated star of "The Hurt Locker," has been offered the role of Snake Plissken in New Line's "Escape From New York" remake.

However, Deal Central can report with 100 percent confidence that no such offer has been extended.

Seriously, internet, just stop with the speculation. It's enough already. This isn't one of those situations where Renner's representatives are denying his involvement publicly until his deal with the studio closes, because there is no deal and there is no involvement at the moment.

It's certainly possible that New Line could approach Renner down the line, but right now, the project is a long way off from casting, and Renner remains focused on teaming up with Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol."

So just one last time, for the record: As of this moment, Jeremy Renner has NOT been offered the role of Snake Plissken and has no plans to don the famous eyepatch anytime soon.

That doesn't mean he can't play Superman though, right?
