Director James Mangold Could Sink His Teeth Into Fox’s ‘The Wolverine’

Darren Aranofsky was once set to direct the sequel to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” but dropped out in March

Twentieth Century Fox and director James Mangold are talking about him directing the next installment of "Wolverine," TheWrap has confirmed.

It's early in the process: Official negotiations haven't started.

Darren Aranofsky had been set to direct the sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," but pulled out in March because the shoot was long and he didn't want to spend that much time away from his family.

The movie is set to film in Japan, and was put on hold because of the earthquake and tsunami.

Since then, Fox has looked at a number of directors.

"Source Code" director Duncan Jones had a meeting or two.

Now, Fox appears to have decided on Mangold, (above) who directed "3:10 to Yuma," "Walk the Line" and "Knight and Day."

Hugh Jackman stars in the movie, which Christopher McQuarrie wrote.
