The Dixie Chicks are planning a summer comeback.
The country trio announced a North American tour on Monday with over 40 dates planned for 2016, starting on June 1 at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The band previously announced European dates.
The DCX MMXVI World Tour will be the Grammy winning group’s first major tour since 2013’s Long Time Gone tour, which only included 15 dates across North America and Europe, and it’s biggest tour since 2006’s Accidents and Accusations Tour.
Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire broke through in 1998 with the release of debut album “Wide Open Spaces,” which earned them their first Grammy Awards.
In 2003, the Dixie Chicks famously incurred the wrath of their patriotic fan base that boycotted them after Maines told a London crowd that they’re “ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.” Their popularity was hurt by the statement Maines eventually apologized for, but their 2006 album, “Taking the Long Way,” earned them five Grammys, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
