DL Hughley was brought to tears Wednesday during an interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, when the two discussed how a string of police shootings has impacted the black community.
“Every black or brown parent that I know has a conversation with their children, when they tell them exactly how to act around the police,” the stand-up comedian and TV host said. “That is abhorrent. That is immoral.”
“I don’t even go to sleep until my grown children come home at night,” he continued. “I keep my clothes on — and my wife will tell you — I keep my clothes on, in case my children need me in the middle of the … night.”
“I just do not understand. We love our children, our parents, our mothers, our fathers — they’re brutalized and no one says anything,” an emotional Hughley concluded.
“It’s too much. It’s too much.”
Hughley was reacting to the Wednesday shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.
The 37-year-old Sterling was shot and killed by police in Louisiana while attempting to sell music outside of a convenience store. Castile was shot and killed by a cop during a traffic stop in Minnesota.
