Judging by the final moments of MTV’s “Double Shot at Love,” you’d think that Vinny Guadagnino and his chosen lady, Alysse Joyner, would be happily dating right now.
But somewhere between the day they taped the finale episode in February and now, the romance fizzled between the two reality stars — things got “a little rocky,” the “Jersey Shore” veteran told TheWrap.
“It wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns, I’m being honest,” Vinny said. “I know when you look at it on TV, it looks like I’m gonna get down on one knee at the end of the show. But there’s a huge dark period after where we’ve kind of just been going with the flow and feeling it out. It hasn’t been easy.”
On the reunion episode that aired right after the season finale Thursday night, Vinny told the audience that in the months before the show aired, he felt like he and Alysse couldn’t “see each other” or “text each other.”
“I didn’t wanna give away the ending of the show,” Vinny told TheWrap. “What if I start texting her and then my phone gets stolen? You start to get a little irrational with it, especially a show as popular as this one. The stakes were so high that we were told to keep the contact as minimal as possible.”
Alysse wasn’t buying it.
“We could text each other,” she reminded Vinny during the reunion special. “We did talk for a few weeks and it was great, and then it kind of faded away and he just stopped trying. It was real, that’s why I was so hurt after.”
Vinny said that because he knew there was no seeing her, “I didn’t keep it alive with text messages and stuff. I admit that.”
So where do they stand now? Reunion host Justina Valentine asked Alysse if she would consider picking things back up with Vinny where they left off.
“I’m actually all set,” she said, at which the crowd collectively gasped.
Pauly D came to Vinny’s defense: “He’s awful with communication. Awful,” he said, explaining that even he doesn’t always get replies from his own best friend.
But despite Vinny’s hesitations during the last few months, he made it clear that he is still open to a romantic relationship with Alysse.
“You suck it up for the months that you have to go dark, because you have someone worth waiting for on the other end of it,” he told TheWrap. “That dark time was just so unnatural to keep something going when we can’t see each other or hang out for six months at a time. I don’t know, we’re feeling it out. If she wants to continue to talk to me, maybe we’ll see each other in the real world.”
