Dr. Aliza Lifshitz, Longtime Univision Health Expert and Author, Dies at 71

The internal medicine specialist died Saturday following a battle with breast cancer

Renowned physician, and founder of Vida y Salud, Dr. Aliza Lifshitz has died at the age of 71 following a battle with breast cancer. According to a press release obtained by TheWrap, Lifshitz died on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022. 

Doctora Aliza, as many warmly called her, was born in Mexico City, Mexico, and made it her life’s work to promote healthier lifestyles for the Hispanic community and beyond. Specializing in internal medicine, she attended Tulane University and clinical pharmacology at the Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. She moved on to solidify a post-graduate degree in endocrinology from the University of California, San Diego. 

On top of extending herself to her community as a health advocate, Lifshitz also took her expertise to television screens, providing health-related insight as an on-camera health expert for Univision for more than 20 years. Some of her other on-camera appearances were on “TV Mujer”, “Hola América”, “Al Mediodía”, “Noticias y Más” and “Primer Impacto.” She also stood as a spokesperson for  Univision’s “Salud Es Vida ¡Entérate!” initiative, for which she later received a Peabody Award. 

In addition, she wrote monthly columns for People en Español, Ser Padres and ImpreMedia newspapers, per the news release. She also provided a bilingual guide to navigating pregnancy and childbirth for Hispanic mothers in the three editions of her book, “Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby.”

Lifshitz served as the Editorial Director of vidaysalud.com, which she founded more than 10 years ago with the intent to educate and inform the community about health and wellness. She cemented her private internal medicine practice at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California for more than 30 years. Up until her death, Lifshitz performed as medical expert for HealthDay News while managing editorial direction for the vidaysalud site.
