‘Dracula Untold’ Scares Up $1.3 Million at Thursday Box Office

Universal’s big screen update of Dracula legend is playing in 2,133 theaters

“Dracula Untold” brought out the late night crowd to the tune of $1.3 million on Thursday night.

The Universal film, an update to the Dracula story, played in 2,133 theaters and is expected to make in the high-teen millions over the weekend, according to analysts. The film is up against family comedy “Alexander and the No Good, Very Bad Day,” and Robert Downey Jr. drama, “The Judge.”

The newcomers will have stiff competition from holdovers from last weekend, including horror film “Annabelle” and “Gone Girl.” The David FincherBen Affleck thriller has generated positive reviews and strong word of mouth and is expected to perform well over the weekend.

Last weekend was the biggest ever in October, driven by “Gone Girl” and “Annabelle,” which both over-performed and finished less than $400,000 apart at $37 million.
