Drafthouse Films Acquires Ben Wheatley’s Horror Movie ‘A Field in England’

The period film stars Reece Shearsmith, Michael Smiley and Julian Barrett

Drafthouse Films has acquired North American rights to horror movie "A Field in England," which is the fourth feature film from writer-director Ben Wheatley ("Kill List").

Billed as "a psychedelic trip into magic and madness," the film follows a group of English Civil War soldiers in the 17th century who are captured by an alchemist and led into a vast mushroom field, where they fall victim to violent and nightmarish forces.

Drafthouse Films, which is the distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, is planning a theatrical and VOD release in 2013.

Wheatley and producers Claire Jones and Andy Starke assembled "A Field in England" with financing from Film4's talent and ideas arm Film4.0, which is headed by Anna Higgs.

Reece Shearsmith stars alongside "Kill List" star Michael Smiley, which Julian Barrett appears in a small role.
