Drake hasn’t abandoned his acting roots, which are on full display in his new short film “Please Forgive Me.”

The rapper dropped the 20-plus-minute action movie overnight exclusively on Apple Music. “Please Forgive Me” originally had a release date of Sept. 30 — apparently, Drake couldn’t wait.

The film co-stars Popcaan, Fanny Neguesha, Sonni Chidiebere (“Blood Diamond”) and Kyla Reid. Directed by Anthony Mandler and shot on location over just one week in Johannesburg and Namibia, “Please Forgive Me” is drawing comparisons to “Indecent Proposal” — plot-wise, at least.

Mandler has also directed Jay Z’s “Run This Town,” Nicki Minaj‘s “Starships,” and Rihanna‘s “Only Girl in the World,” among other high-profile music videos. He even did the Taylor Swift Apple Music commercials, whether you like those or hate them. “Please Forgive Me” was produced by Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records.

Drake‘s movie is based on his latest album, “Views,” which was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) last month. Drake is still No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The film’s soundtrack includes “Hype,” “Weston Road Flows” and “Once Dance,” which are all on Drake‘s “Views.” It also goes elsewhere, however, in setting the mood through music — also featured is Fela Kuti’s 1970s song, “Colonial Mentality.”
