‘E! News’ Lays Off 2 Dozen LA Staffers in Move to New York

Network announced its nightly news show is moving to the Big Apple — and mornings — earlier on Tuesday

E! News laid off 20-25 of its Los Angeles staffers Tuesday as part of the move to expand its programming slate and transition its Los Angeles-based nightly pop culture show into a New York-based morning program, the network said.

The news was delivered Tuesday in a staff meeting held by executive vice president and editor in chief Tammy Filler, a person with knowledge of the staff reduction told TheWrap. Filler joined E! News in April to expand its programming.

Employees that were affected by the transition will be able to apply for both Los Angeles and New York based positions on the new shows launching in 2020. Most are expected to be rehired.

E! News’ evening program currently airs at 7 p.m. ET/PT, but will transition to a 7 a.m. slot based out of New York starting in 2020. The series will continue to feature the most-talked about stories in entertainment tailored to a younger audience.

“Nightly Pop” will expand to four nights per week, while the live daytime series “Daily Pop” will continue to air every weekday as usual. No word yet on who will host the new and revamped shows. New programs coming next year include a variety of pop culture commentary formats, an in-home celebrity interview series, a weekly review show about TV, music, movies and viral videos, as well as New York-based morning and daytime news series.
