In a new trailer for zombie comedy “Cooties,” kids at an elementary school are turning into flesh eaters after one contracts a deadly virus from tainted chicken nuggets in the school cafeteria. The catch? The virus only affects those who haven’t undergone puberty yet.
Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson and Leigh Whannell are teachers who get trapped inside their school when the virus spreads, and team up with more faculty to battle the young undead until reinforcements — a.k.a. parents — arrive to pick up their dead kids at the end of the school day.
The movie trailer suggests fans of “Shaun of the Dead” will be amused: It’s gory, it’s funny and full of action.
Since its Sundance premiere in 2014, Lionsgate purchased the film and directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion re-edited some of the plot.
Whannell, an established horror screenwriter (“Saw,” “Insidious”) wrote the script with Ian Brennan (“Glee”). “Cooties” hits theaters on Sept. 18.
