Elizabeth Olsen to Play Juliet in Off-Broadway Production of ‘Romeo & Juliet’

Elizabeth Olsen, the star of "Martha Marcy May Marlene," will appear in the title role in the Classic Stage Company production of "Romeo & Juliet"

Elizabeth Olsen is heading to the stage in an off-Broadway production of "Romeo and Juliet" for the Classic Theatre Company, the theater company announced on Thursday.

The production of the Shakespeare classic will kick off the company's 2013-14 season in late September, although specific dates have not been set. Additional casting and a creative team is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The actress, whose star turn in "Martha Marcy May Marlene" shifted her from younger sister of "Full House" twins Ashley and Mary-Kate to serious film actress, has previous stage credits to her name. A student at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, she also studied with the Atlanta Theater Company and was an understudy in the 2009 production of "Impressionism" with Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons.

She is currently working with Spike Lee on the remake of Chan-wook Park's "Oldboy," opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Brolin. The film is scheduled for release on Oct. 11.
