Jon Stewart Calls Life After ‘Daily Show’ a ‘Barren Wasteland’ During Emmy Speech (Video)

Comedian advises fellow TV professionals to cling to their jobs “like death” after win for Outstanding Variety Talk Series

Jon Stewart called life after “The Daily Show” a “barren wasteland” while accepting the Emmy award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series on Sunday.

“I have been off television for six weeks … this is the first applause I’ve heard,” Stewart said. “It is a barren wasteland … Out in the world there are tables of food, but you can’t take it.”

The comedian, who taped his last episode of the Comedy Central show on Aug. 6, lamented the lack of applause he has received since, and advised fellow TV professionals to “cling to it as long as you can, like death.”

“I will never have an experience like this again,” he continued. “Comedy Central blessed me with this … Thank you so very much. You will never have to see me again.”
