In arguably one of the most explosive cliffhangers from”Empire’s” Season 1 finale, Rhonda Lyon revealed she was pregnant after she had just bludgeoned Uncle Vernon to death in order to defend husband Andre Lyon who was in a deadly brawl with him. But if fans thought that scene was crazy, Rhonda’s portrayer Kaitlin Doubleday promises it’s only about to get crazier when Season 2 kicks off Wednesday night.
“There’s another ‘Oh My God,’ jaw-dropping, insane cliffhanger that happens to Rhonda, which is weird because I don’t know why she’s attracting all this drama,” Doubleday tells executive editor Joseph Kapsch during interview Tuesday at TheWrap’s Studios.
Doubleday said the cast has filmed eight episodes of the full season’s 22 order with episode 10 marking a midseason finale and “Season 2 is even better than the first.”
When asked how she’s adjusting to Rhonda’s prosthetic baby bump, Doubleday joked: “It’s kind of awkward. But I love it because when I feel fat and bloated on set, I just get to put it on top and I feel great.”
“Episode 5, we put [the pregant belly] in. And we’ve been trying to perfect it, like find the exact right shape,” she said.
Doubleday also revealed that fans just may see some scheming and teaming between Rhonda and Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard).
As for Rhonda’s backstory or whether we can expect to see any of her character’s family surface, Doubleday said you’ll have to watch, but did reveal her dream picks to play Rhonda’s mother. (See interview to find out who she picks)
