EuropaCorp has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to “Their Finest,” a World War II comedy-drama about filmmakers.
Director Lone Scherfig‘s movie follows a group working together to make an inspirational war flick during the London Blitz. “Their Finest” stars Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin (pictured above), Bill Nighy, Jack Huston and Richard E. Grant and is based on Lissa Evans’ 2009 novel “Their Finest Hour and a Half.”
“There is no one like Lone who can ride the line between comedy and drama in such a profound and beautiful way,” EuropaCorp’s Marc Shmuger said in a statement. “Her film is a total crowd pleaser. It’s all at once witty, heart tugging, and hilarious. EuropaCorp couldn’t be more excited to partner with Lone and the production team to bring this brilliant movie to US audiences.”
“Eastenders'” writer Gaby Chiappe penned the script, and Stephen Woolley, Amanda Posey, Finola Dwyer and Elizabeth Karlsen are the producers. The movie is produced by Number 9 films and Wildgaze Films
Hanway and CAA jointly represented the film’s domestic rights. Hanway is also handling international rights on the film. Federica Sainte-Rose, head of worldwide acquisitions, and Aaron Michiel EVP of business affairs, negotiated the deal on behalf of EuropaCorp.
