FilmDistrict Acquires Zac Efron Comedy ‘Are We Officially Dating?’

Tom Gormican's movie co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller

FilmDistrict has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Tom Gormican's comedy "Are We Officially Dating?," which stars Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller.

FilmDistrict will release the film wide in the U.S. on January 31, 2014.

"Are We Officially Dating?" follows three guys who decide to support a friend devastated by a recent breakup by vowing to maintain their single status for as long as possible. The plan gets derailed when they each fall in love and have to secretly work around their pledge to bachelorhood, while trying to figure out the complications of modern day relationships.

Treehouse Pictures financed the movie, which was produced by the company's Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen, as well as Scott Aversano and Andrew O'Connor. Film was executive produced by Jason Barrett, Manu Gargi, John Friedberg, Michael Simkin, Peter Schlessel and Lia Buman.

“We are all excited to be involved with 'Are We Officially Dating? and all the rising talent in front of and behind the camera. Tom wrote a script that is as funny as it is heartfelt and we are pleased to release his directorial debut," said Schlessel, CEO of FilmDistrict.

“We couldn’t be happier that FilmDistrict will be releasing 'Are We Officially Dating?' in the US, ensuring that Tom Gormican’s highly relatable comedy with an amazingly talented cast has the chance to connect with the largest possible audience," added Nappi.

The deal was brokered for the filmmakers by WME and CAA.
