Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein Serve Each Other in Epic ’90s Dance-Off on ‘Portlandia’ Premiere (Video)

Feminist bookstore owners Candace and Toni have got “The Power” in Season 5 flashback clip

Portlandia

Before they owned a feminist bookstore together, Candace and Toni were ’90s nightclub dance floor rivals.

The two shoulder-padded “Portlandia” residents, played by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, respectively, will go at it battle-style on a Thursday flashback, when the quirky IFC comedy returns for its fifth season. Peter Giles guest stars on the opener. In a way, so does German music group Snap!, via its “The Power” anthem.

Like any good dance floor cat fight, this one starts with mutually inaudible passive-aggressive insults, and ends with a circle of men gawking at the enticing female frenemy display. There’s just two key difference in this one: They’re both terrible dancers and Armisen makes for one ugly woman.

Later this season, Steve Buscemi, Justin Long, Seth Meyers, Paul Reubens, Olivia Wilde and others will join Fred and Carrie via their own guest roles.

“Portlandia” Season 5 premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. on IFC.
