George Clooney, Matt Damon Save History in First ‘Monuments Men’ Trailer (Video)

The upcoming World War II thriller is the fifth feature film Clooney has directed

George Clooney is teaming up with Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, Cate Blanchett and "The Artist" star Jean Dujardin to stop Adolf Hitler from destroying history, in the first trailer for "The Monuments Men."

The World War II thriller, written and directed by Clooney, focuses on a misfit platoon of aging art experts tasked by FDR with going behind enemy lines to rescue masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners

Or as Clooney explains, "I'm to put a team together and do our best to protect buildings, bridges and art before the Nazis destroy everything."

The film, based on Robert M. Edsel's book "The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History," is being released Dec. 18 by Columbia Pictures.
