Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart Run for Their Lives in First ‘London Has Fallen’ Trailer (Video)

The Focus Features release is a sequel to 2013 hit “Olympus Has Fallen”

Lionsgate UK released the first trailer for “London Has Fallen” on Wednesday.

After top Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) saved President Ben Asher (Aaron Eckhart) from North Korean militants in 2013, the two now travel to London to attend the funeral of the British Prime Minister.

But a terrorist group plans to assassinate all the world leaders attending the funeral, forcing Banning and the President to once again fight for their lives.

The Focus Features film is a follow-up to the 2013 hit “Olympus Has Fallen.” The film was a surprise hit, grossing over $161 million worldwide against a $70 million budget.

Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, and Melissa Leo will all reprise their roles from the original film. The sequel also reunites screenwriters Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, along with writers Christian Gudegast and Chad St. John. Babak Najafi is directing.

“London Has Fallen” will open in US theaters on January 22, 2016.
