‘The Get Down’ Part 2 Premiere Date, First Teaser Revealed (Video)

Baz Luhrmann series explores evolution of hip hop in New York in the 1970’s

Netflix announced the premiere date for part two of Baz Luhrmann’s “The Get Down” on Thursday.

The second installment of the series will air on April 7. Part two picks up in 1978, one year after the events of part one. Our young lovers Books (Justice Smith) and Mylene (Herizen Guardiola) are caught in the swirl of a looming cultural revolution destined to change everything about their world.

Amidst the backdrop of a bankrupt New York City, ruthless gangsters and money-hungry record label bosses, they discover it’s only their creativity and love that will carry them through, and that they’ll sacrifice everything for their music, and each other.

The series is led by “Dope” star Shameik Moore as Shaolin Fantastic — who may have the best character name in TV history — as well as newcomers Tremaine Brown Jr. and Skylan Brooks. Jaden Smith also stars.

The series is executive produced by Luhrmann, Nas, Catherine Martin, Paul Watters, Thomas Kelly, Stephen Adly Guirgis, and Marney Hochman.
