Discovery Channel’s most-watched series “Gold Rush” returns on Friday with a two-hour premiere episode full of twists and turns.
Things have been changing on Season 5 and Discovery’s teasing “new miners, new claims, new machines and new ways to pull gold out of the ground.”
Parker, the young crew leader, is forging ahead; Todd Hoffman and his crew are starting at square one after a disastrous year; Dave has broken off from Todd’s crew and is now digging with a new crew, and Tony Beets is starting the year with a powerful (and expensive) new dredge that he needs to get working before the season is lost.
Talk show “Dirt” is back, as well, with series executive producer Christo Doyle gets the scoop from the miners themselves along with exclusive footage from the cutting room floor.
In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek from the premiere episode, “Klondike” veteran Ed Carmacks has hit pay dirt, but a mechanical failure could derail the operation.

The fifth season of “Gold Rush” premieres Friday at 9 p.m. ET, with pre-show “The Dirt,” airing beforehand at 8 p.m. ET.
