“Birdman” and its distributor Fox Searchlight Films are the top Golden Globes contenders in the movie categories, with seven and 12 nominations, respectively, while HBO has once again dominated the television categories, thanks in part to four nominations for “True Detective” — but that’s not the top show.
FX’s mini-series “Fargo” scored five nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The basic cable network racked up a total of eight, with two nominations for “American Horror Story: Freak Show” and one for “Louie.”
Meanwhile, Showtime boasted the most nominations in the premium cable network’s history with nine total, led by three for freshmen series “The Affair” and two for crime drama “Ray Donovan” in the acting departments.
Netflix, which won its first Golden Globe last year when “House of Cards” star Robin Wright took one home for her role as the scheming Claire Underwood, came back strong this year with seven nominations total.
