‘The Good Cop’: Tony Danza Bad-Cops Son Josh Groban in First Trailer for Netflix Dramedy (Video)

TCA 2018: Danza is the Oscar to Groban’s Felix

What if “The Odd Couple” were father and son police officers? You’d get Tony Danza and Josh Groban in Netflix’s new series “The Good Cop.”

Netflix unveiled the first look at its upcoming law enforcement dramedy during its Television Critics Association press tour presentation on Sunday.

The series sees Danza play a not-good-cop former NYPD officer who lives with his son, the very straight-laced Josh Groban. The two become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. (Danza) offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice. In the trailer, we find out that Danza’s Tony Sr. is out of prison after seven years (definitely not the “good” cop). Despite this, he remains a favorite of all his former police buddies, much to chagrin of Tony Jr. (Groban), who is more annoyed than grateful of his father’s “helpful” advice.

The cast includes Monica Barbaro, Isiah Whitlock, Jr and Bill Kottkamp. The 10-episode first season will be released on September 21.

Andy Breckman, the creator of “Monk,” will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Randy Zisk and Howard Klein also serving as executive producers. Zisk will also direct the first episode and Danza will also serve as a producer. “The Good Cop” is inspired by a format from Israeli production company YES, which also grabs an executive producer credit.

“The Good Cop” will launch September 21 on Netflix.
