“Bridge of Spies,” “The Hateful Eight” and “American Horror Story: Hotel” are among the nominees for the 2015 Cinema Audio Society Awards. The group recognizes annual achievements in sound mixing  and technical achievements.

“This was a year of terrific sound in both film and television,” CAS President Mark Ulano said. “These nominations represent the outstanding sound mixing being done in each category and I congratulate each of our nominees.”

The nominees include most of the films expected to contend for the Oscar for Best Sound Mixing. Films that were not nominated by the CAS but have a chance for an Oscar nomination include “The Martian,” “Sicario,” “Spectre” and “Straight Outta Compton.”

In the last five years, about two-thirds of CAS nominees have gone on to receive Oscar nominations for sound mixing, with the winners agreeing four out of six times. Last year, four out of the five CAS nominees went on to receive Oscar nominations — but the Academy gave its award to “Whiplash,” the only one of its sound mixing nominees that had not been nominated by the CAS.

The Cinema Audio Society is one of two industry groups that gives awards for sound. The other, the Motion Picture Sound Editors, which nominates in the field of sound editing, recently pushed back its awards schedule for this year. It will not announce its nominees until Jan. 29.
